OVERVIEW:

Attu is a 1977 custom 32 foot Westsail. She was customized by Worldcruiser and is and one of the top ten Westsails ever built. All yacht equipment is current, operational, and fully tested after voyaging the West coast, Mexico, the Hawaiian Islands, British Columbia, and Alaska. With her 60hp Perkins diesel engine Attu can power against a seven knot Alaskan current. Under sail with her max-prop Attu exceeds 160 nautical miles (noon to noon) close reaching to windward, against the trade winds. Attu's interior is elegant throughout (custom built to the highest standards by a master carpenter). The interior is clean and comfortable for living aboard for extended periods whether there is Canadian snow on deck, or hot tropical Hawaiian air blowing through the forward hatch. Special features include exterior bulwarks sheathed and capped in teak wood; all hatch combings done in thick teak wood; main saloon skylight done in stained glass sporting a spectacular bursting sun; main saloon mirror features etched glass sporting dolphins and a bursting sun; and the master library features extensive book shelving done in oval shapes with fitted mahogany combings. Attu has a full sized chart table. Attu is rigged for single handed sailing.

ACCOMMODATIONS AND LAYOUT:

The main saloon has a custom fore and aft layout (instead of standard Westsail athwart ships dinette). Main saloon seats six on two facing settees around a massively constructed drop-leaf oak table. Library book shelves located outboard of facing settees.  Berthing includes two facing settees in the main saloon that convert to offshore seaberths (with heavy, net lee-clothes).   The starboard settee also converts to inshore double guest berth.  Owner has double berth forward at the port bow. Stowage lockers at the starboard bow. Crew pilot berth is aft of chart table at the starboard stern quarter.  Head compartment is midships on port side, aft of the owner's berth, but forward of the main saloon.  Hanging locker and other storage compartments across from head on starboard side. Both galley and navigation area is aft of the main saloon. The galley is U-shaped on the port side. The chart table is athwart ships on the starboard side. Engine compartment is centerline aft of the companionway ladder; fuel tank at the port stern quarter. Interior deck constructed of teak and holly. The overhead is tongue and groove ash. All joiner work is masterfully done in mahogany. Hatches are massively done in teak. The 16,000 btu FAB-ALL diesel heater is backed with finely colored tile. Hand held hot and cold shower head piped to cockpit . Shower gray water discharged overboard through cockpit scuppers.

GALLEY:

Hille propane three burner range (mounted on gimbals) with oven; serviced by 12 gallons of deck stowed propane bottles. Propane solenoid shut off installed. Deep, stainless steel, double sinks serviced by fresh water foot pump; and hot and cold pressure water delivered by hand operated spray nozzle on 3ft hose. Sinks have hand pump overboard discharge. Hot water is provided by Bosch propane water heater (equipped with flu and deck iron). Expansive top loading ice box; additional dry food stowage lockers outboard of stove. Counter tops are formica.

ELECTRONICS AND NAVIGATION EQUIPMENT:

This vessel is well equipped with electronic, navigation and safety equipment, including a Horizon model 78 VHF radio, with antennae on the mast head, a Panasonic HF shortwave receiver, a Magellan two channel GPS, and a Coastal Navigator DS 1010 depth sounder is installed. An EPIRB mini-B is at hand in a locker. There is a cassette deck with two speakers in the main saloon, Boston quartz brass clock and barometer set, a quartz 24 hour clock, and a 3in dial brass thermometer. A Ritchie SBN40 bulkhead mounted compass is mounted on the aft cabin bulkhead servicing the cockpit and a Silva compass is mounted on the chart table. There is a Tillermaster auto-pilot. Vessel communications is also serviced by both land line and cellular telephones, with answering machine. Additionally, there is a Walker taffrail log, a Tamaya Spica sextant, Weems and Plath hand bearing compass, Tamaya model NC77 navigational calculator, Steiner 7x5O binoculars, and a complete set of navigation tools.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:

12v and 110v systems. Two Sears deep cycle batteries service the vessel while underway or at anchor. The 12v system is charged by belt driven alternator from the engine, or by a combination of solar panel (3ft x 4ft) and Aero-gen wind generator. Vessel is equipped with a standard 11Ov battery charger. 11O v shore power services the ship in marinas. Vessel is equipped with both 110v lighting and heating with proper shore power connection.

DECK AND HULL:

The exterior fiberglass and gel coat are in very good condition, with no signs of degradation, crazing, or fractures. The deck and cabin top have a molded non-skid surface, and are in good condition. The hull gelcoat is clean and free of stain and gouge; no evidence of blistering below the waterline after 23 years of continuous service. New Groco brand sea cocks (4) with Teflon seating installed October 1999 for engine raw water intake, galley discharge, and head intake and discharge. There is a Simpson and Lawrence windlass servicing a 45 lb CQR anchor, 11O ft of 3/8in chain and 500ft of 3/4in nylon braid line. There is a 35 lb Danforth stem anchor with 6ft of 5/16in chain and 250ft of 2/2in 3-strand Dacron line. Mounted on the fore deck is an 8ft pram tender with two oars. The mast is flanked on both sides with 3in stainless steel pulpits. The vessel is also equipped with a superb vinyl covered dodger with rain-fly and bug-net inserts. The dodger also has a full cover for protection from the sun. The cockpit area is contained by canvas weather clothes. The stern has a pulpit that supports the man over board rig, and a handy seat for the owner. Bowsprit and boornkin spars, and the mast, are adequately supported by chain plates and stays. Vessel equipped with Monitor wind vane self-steering.

SAILS AND RIGGING:

Roller-furling not allowed on board. Attu carries the best sails for all sailing conditions. Combination of excellent sail inventory and max-prop give Attu superb performance under sail; Attu out-performs both lighter and larger sailing vessels, whether the wind whispers or roars. All sails are in excellent condition. Included are two mainsails (two sets of reef points), two staysails (one Genoa staysail), a Yankee jib, a 150% tan bark colored 4oz Genoa, a 150% red colored 1.5oz drifter, and a storm try sail. All rigging is in excellent shape (replaced 1993). The staysail stay is removable on a pelican hook, permitting easy, unencumbered, tacking of the Genoa. Running back stays are rigged. Lazy jacks help support the mainsail while single handing. The downwind pole is 17ft in length and is stowed on the mast, parallel to the forward face of the mast. Reefing tackle is rigged. All winches (8) are serviced.
